MOANING MYRTLE

Not too long ago, I was introduced to the world of Harry Potter Costuming/Cosplaying by a Star Wars and Cosplay friend, Parish. From being invited to a HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS Photoshoot, to finally watching the movie on the Big Screen, I became interested in the Costumes seen in the movie.

After much consideration, I choose to try to replicate the costume of Moaning Myrtle from the movie HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS.  Few people had actually successfully in their attempt to make her costume properly as it's totally different from the other students in the first 2 movies so that kind of pushed me to be the first.

Below I have put up 2 versions of Moaning Myrtle Costumes: Pre-Death/Standard Female Student School Uniform and 1992 Ghost Moaning Myrtle Costume. Currently, I have only done the Pre-Death/Standard Female Student School Uniform with plans to do the Ghost version later.

[A] THE SCHOOL ROBE & HOUSE PATCH

[i] STANDARD

The SCHOOL ROBE worn by students in the 1940s seems to be similar in style to those worn in HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE and HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBERS OF SECRETS:
A plain Black School Robe with a Graduation-like or Oval Collar attached by 3 pleats at the collar.

This Robe may also have Hidden Side Pockets apart from the usual Wand Pocket, and closes with 2 Diamond Design End Frog Closure.

[i] 1992 GHOST MOANING MYRTLE

The design of the School Robe is the same as those seen in the first 2 movie.

In order to get the same weathered texture, Linen could had been used for "Ghost" Moaning Myrtle's School Robe. It probably had been dyed Navy Blue or Black (with Blue tone like DYLON Ebony Black) and then weathered down through excessive washing and stovetop dyeing and washing and Sand rubbed into certain part (think Gandalf of Fellowship of the Ring Outfit) etc etc.

Myrtle's School Robe length seems to be a few inches above her ankle.

Unlike in later years (1970-1990s), all the students wore the same PATCH on their school Robe (and probably School Cloak), the Hogwarts Patch.

This patch is a cut-out version of the Hogwarts Shield and so far only Patch Palace sell it (get the Hogwarts-Tom Riddle Style Patch, NOT GOBLET OF FIRE House Champion one),

[B] SHIRT & PINAFOLD

Students wore a WHITE SHIRT, similar to those worn in the first 2 movies. But unlike the boys as seen worn by Tom Riddle, Female Students wore a Peter Pan Collar Shirt:

If doing the Pre-Death or regular 1940s Female Student, then a normal Pan-Collar Shirt can be used.
But if doing a "Ghost" Moaning Myrtle, then the shirt has to be made from fabric in Ivory/Off-White Color (or lightly dyed with concentrated amount of tea. Tutorial).

Contrary to what most Moaning Myrtle Costumers/Cosplayers believed, Female Students and Moaning Myrtle DO NOT wear a Sweater and Skirt Combo like their 1990s counterpart.

Moaning Myrtle is seen wearing a PINAFOLD that have 5 Pleats on each side (Standard Pinafold have 3 pleats). Pre-Death version will be (Dark) Grey in color, same color as the Pants for the 1940s Boys while "Ghost" Version should be of Grey with the weaves colors shown (darker in color than base)

[C] ACCESSORIES

Moaning Myrtle wore a pair of Pink Round Frame Glasses and had her Chest Length Brown Hair tied into 2 at the sides with Black Elastic Bands.
