RULES OF CONDUCT

Below we have put together a list of Advice and Guideline for those who are going to be involved in our HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS Activities this Saturday 21st July 2007. We highly recommend anyone who are going to be part of our group to try to follow these Rules, especially in the presence of the public who may not be familiar or comfortable with our usual behavior.

[A] COSTUMERS/COSPLAYERS

[i] BEST BEHAVIOR AT (ALMOST) ALL TIME
ALL Harry Potter Costumers and Cosplayers
are reminded to be in your Best Behavior when in the Public's view during our Harry Potter activities.
Anything you do out of the Public's View is up to you.

[ii] PLEASE WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE
Please do not use Vulgarity or Curse Words in front of the public, especially around Small Children.
This can turn off a new generation of Harry Potter Fans or their parents (and reflect poorly of you).

[iii] PLEASE DO NOT SMOKE WHILE IN COSTUME
While in any Harry Potter Costumes, each Costumer/Cosplayer is caution against Smoking, even when taking a break. This will "Cheapen" the Harry Potter Fans' experience and reflect poorly on us.
If you desperately need to smoke, PLEASE hide somewhere to do it quickly.

[iv] OUR POLICY ON YAOI/YURI POSES
We do not mind our Costumers/Cosplayer posing in any YAOI or YURI pose AS LONG AS it's in good taste and not too "Hard/Adult Themed".
Holding Hands, Touching/Holding Face, Polite Hugging etc are "okay" but advice to be done out of the Public's View.

[v] MAKE TIME FOR PHOTOS
Please try not to refuse to have your photos taken with the public as long as it's in "Good Taste" (you are ready) or they are not being Rude etc.
Even if you're enroute somewhere, please try to take the time to pose for the cameras. You'll give someone, especially Children, a memory they can cherish for years to come.

[vi] DON'T SCARE THE CHILDREN AND ADULTS
Some small children may or may not have seen the Harry Potter Movies or read the books or familiar with the Costumes/Character. Thus, those who haven't seen the movies or read the Harry Potter Books might not recognize you or your costume.
If you wear a mask and a child is starting to shy away or cry, remove your mask to show them there is really a person underneath.
On the same note, don't intentionally scare children. Kids can be a lot of fun if you let them.

[vii] BE PREPARED
Generally speaking, most people are very nice and pleasant to deal with. There are also people you'd rather avoid if you can help it. Small children (and their parents) sometimes see costumers as targets and they will sometimes try to have fun at your expense.
Take things in stride, but don't be a pushover. Avoiding a confrontation is the best way to handle one. If you have a designated "Minder" (a person who isn't in costume), have them look around for potential problems or politely handle such trouble-makers.

[viii] "DO YOU WORK FOR WARNER BROTHERS, JK ROWLING?" ETC ETC?
DO NOT say to the Public and Press that you work for or are Affiliated with Official Harry Potter Companies like J.K. Rowling, Scholastic Books, Bloomsbury Publishing, Warner Brothers Entertainment etc.
Honesty is always the Best Policy.

[B] MINDERS

Minders & Friends are reminded to be of any assistant to all Costumers & Cosplayers. If you are assigned to help carry the bags or keep a lookout for us or being a Photographer, please do.

Minders & Friends are also advice to keep a lookout against any member of the public who may want to get "too comfortable" with any Costumers/Cosplayers. Please advice these people to respect the "Space" needed by each Costumer/Cosplayers as we are doing this as part of showing our love of Harry Potter, not as any part of any promotions or companies so we have the full right to our own privacy.

Minders & Friends can also be the Costumers/Cosplayers' Explainer; helping to attend to any of the Public or Press Enquires about the Harry Potter Group or our Activities that day.
If in doubt over any information, please refer the Public or Press to any of the Costumers/Cosplayers.

[C] PHOTOGRAPHERS

All Photographers are advice to be as Professional as possible.

Please try to refrain from taking photos which are not in "Good Taste" like pictures of Costumers/Cosplayers changing in the toilet cubicle (anything without a Shirt AND Skirt/Pants covered our body).

Please keep a watch for your own safety too and that of other people around you. Do not try taking photos from the middle of the road when the "Green Man" is already Blinking or position yourself in dangerous positions (On top of High Walls, From Tree Branches etc) or push the public away in order for you to be able to take the best shots.

We Harry Potter Costumers and Cosplayers will also HIGHLY APPRECIATE it if you can pass a copy of the photos you took of us during the event, whether in CD format or E-Mail Files to us and we too will pass a copy of the photos from our collection to you as part of a friendly Photo Exchange.

Photos chosen to be posted online are also advice to be in "Good Taste" and shouldn't be in any way reflecting badly on any of the Harry Potter Costumer/Cosplayer. Should any photos be requested to be removed, please do so.

[D] MASS MEDIA/REPORTER

[a] CHECK FIRST BEFORE INTERVIEWING!
Please check with our Harry Potter Group Leader or members first if we had promised anything to other Newspaper Reporter beforehand and they are waiting to meet us.

We hate to turn down someone who had been looking forward to interview and photograph us on the actual day since weeks earlier, only to discover that another reporter had already interviewed us.

FYI, this unfortunately DID happened in June 2002 (A BIG Apology to Fauziah of The New Paper for what accidentally happen in June 2002 when HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX book was release )

[b] FACTS vs FICTION
Please remember to get your facts correct like our members' Name, Age or Occupation.

We DO NOT appreciate being called by another name just because you can't match the name to the face. If got any enquires, do check back to this website or contact any of our members.

The Namecard of our Group Leader or a Pamplet of our group's contacts can be obtained on request for your own references.

[c] PHOTO & QUOTES USAGE
We do not require you to show us beforehand the photos you have chosen to use in the Article about us nor get our approval for the article you had written about us. We trust your judgment on how it should be done and we appreciate it if you do your best to put us in good taste.

Remember, we are NOT people with no life; Harry Potter Costuming/Cosplaying is JUST a Hobby and we prefer to keep it that way. And none of our members had been force to don the characters unlike some other local noob group hence this is all on volunteer basis.

AT THE END OF THE DAY,
WE ARE ONLY TRYING TO HAVE LOTS OF FUN
THIS UPCOMING 21ST JULY 2007
