HOW IT ALL BEGINS

Project LORD OF THE RINGS: The FanForce Parade was first conceived on 15th September, 2002 among 5 STAR WARS FanForce Singapore friends. The initial plan was to don Lord Of The Rings Costumes on the day THE TWO TOWERS is released in Singapore on 19th December 2002. Several members of TFN Jedi Council: FanForce Singapore and mIRC #starwars (Galaxynet) then begin to reserve which characters they will be doing for the Parade. This project is created in order to repeat the success of our STAR WARS: ATTACK OF THE CLONES Costume Parade conducted on 15th May 2002, and show the eagerness of Singapore LOTR FanForce.

Unfortunately, certain things in all participant's life prevented us from carrying out the project in December 2002. Hence, a new project was created for the following year, 2003 when RETURN OF THE KING get released in cinemas all over the world on December 17th/18th 2003. Plans and recruitments of more members was conducted from December 2002 till now, and we are eager to make this Project a great success this time round.

~FAQ~

Q: Who Are You People?
A: We are just a buncha of local STAR WARS Fans and local Cosplayers who also share a passion for LORD OF THE RINGS. Our age ranges from 12 years old to over 30 years old, with various degree of occupations.

Q: What Is The Full Plan Of The Parade/Screening
A: We intended to assemble in Full Costume at 1600H (4pm) on Dec 18th 2003 (the day ROTK is released in Singapore) at Somerset MRT Station. After everyone had arrived and their roles (for helpers) had been assigned, we will march down Orchard Road towards Shaw LIDO. We will have Photoshoot Stopovers at The Hereen and Ngee Ann City Front Fountain, and a little stopover (no photography) at Kinokuniya & Borders Bookstore.

The Map of our Parade is shown here:

  1. Assemble at Somerset MRT Station 1600h
  2. Photoshoot Stopover at The Hereen
  3. Photoshoot Stopover at Ngee Ann City Front Fountain & Kinokuniya
  4. Stopover at Borders Bookstore
  5. Assemble at Shaw Lido for RETURN OF THE KING SCREENING

From 1745H (5.45pm), we will be at Shaw LIDO Cinema for more photoshoot, onsite LOTR Activities, a little rest and touch ups before proceeding to watch the Screening of RETURN OF THE KING at about 1900h (7pm).

At the end of the movie, we will change back into our normal clothing and go out together for dinner/supper at the nearest agreed location (probably McDonald at Shaw or BugerKing near Borders). Everyone is invited to the dinner too!

Q: Do I Have To Pay Anything To Join You At The Parade?
A: Nope. But you have to pay for your own meals, refreshments and Return Of The King Movie Ticket.

Q: I Want To Join You At The Costume Parade But Have No LOTR Costumes. What Should I Do?
A: Well, we can offer you 3 choices:

1. Make your own now.

  • We have provided some links to places that offer some tips/reports on the LOTR Costumes. We highly recommand Alleycatscratch LOTR Research for all the informations you need for the construction of your LOTR Costumes and Armors. Check out also other links to Fan LOTR Costume Pages we have provided under our Link Page for more inspiration & tips.

2. Rent LOTR Costumes From Local Costume Shops

  • There are a number of Costume Shops in Singapore that carry Rubies or Generic LOTR Costumes for rental. We have provide some addresses and cost of rental in our COSTUMES RENTAL link. Members are to pay for the rental fees themselves (usually SGD60 + SGD100 returnable deposit).

3. Borrow any of our members' extra LOTR Costumes

  • We have a few members who got extra LOTR Costumes they had done at previous events. We are more than welcome to lend it to you as long as you can fit it and fit our special "requirements".
  • Currently, we only got the following costumes at hand:  Eowyn Refugee Dress (L),  Arwen Rose Dress (L), Ringwraith No. 2 (L) and Elven Cloak .

Q: Do You Allow Repeated Characters Or Costumes?
A: We do allow Repeated Characters but will prefer you to try to fill up our vacancies first.
BUT
, we highly discourage Repeated Costumes. Each character in the movies have a few different costumes so why not try out one of them if the other had already been done by another participants?

Q: Will This Event Be Covered By The Local Mass Media?
A: For now, we are not sure cause the real plans for the event is still being worked on. But some of our members will contact any Mass Media Rep that we know of, such as TODAY or Channel News Asia or The New Paper to invite them to witness and report on this event.

Q: Do I Have To Follow Any Special Rules While Being Part Of The Group?
A: Yes.

Basically, there'll be NO Smoking or Use of Vulgarity while in costume. Drinking of Alcoholic Drinks is also highly to be avoided while in costume to make sure you don't make a fool of yourself and others (Out of Costume is another story altogether). This is to prevent our image as Costumers & LOTR Fans from being tainted, other than to prevent turning off a new generation of LOTR Fans.

If anyone request for a photo with you, please try not to turn it down (unless you really, really need to go to the loo or in the middle of putting on your costume/props). A minute of your time will give a life time of cherish memories for others.

And while enroute you hear anyone passing bad comment about you, your costume or others in the group, Ignore Them. They are being the idiot, not you. You have the nerve to don the LOTR Costume and parade in public, remember? By passing those bad comments, these people are actually being the suawko and cowards..

Here's a good website that covers the basic rules each participants must obey while in Costume

Q: Is This Event The Only Event Participants Can Attend In LOTR Costumes?
A: Nope.

On 27th December 2003, certain members of this group will attend a local Cosplay Event in our LOTR Costumes. On that day, we may be joined by others who are part of the LOTR Cosplay Team. Members will attempt to compete in certain categories.

Private Photoshoots at CHIJMES, Fort Canning, Botanic Garden etc may also be organized on a specific day before or after Dec 18th. Participants are encourage to attend these private photoshoots too.

Prior to that date, certain members of the team had also participated in local Cosplay Events in their LOTR Costumes.

Q: Is There Any Other String Attach For Participants Of The Project?
A: Yes, there are.

As the Organizer of this Event (and Web Master), I required that each participants will get a few profile photos taken, probably before we sets out for the Costumes Parade and/or at LIDO while we waited for the door to the theater to open.

The Profile Photos required will be:

  • Full Body-Front
  • Full Body-Back
  • Full Body-Side
  • Specific Parts of the costumes (eg: Half-Body Shot, Face Shot, Pose Shot)

The photos will then get posted on this Website. Participants who will not like their Profile Photos to be posted here can request for it (and thus, their profile photos will only be for my private collection).
